Fish for Health Research Center participates in Conexidades 2024

The Fish for Health Research Center, coordinated by the Oceanographic Institute of the University of São Paulo, in co-execution with the Fisheries Institute (IP-Apta), of the Secretariat of Agriculture and Supply of the State of São Paulo, the University of Mogi das Cruzes and the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, participated in the 7th Conexidades 2024, an efficiency and innovation event to transform cities, which took place between June 4th and 8th, in the city of São Sebastião, on the north coast of São Paulo.

Committed to promoting fish consumption and its importance for health, the Center team was present on June 5th and 6th, at the Secretariat's stand, and took the opportunity to present its mission and innovative proposals. In addition to publicizing the importance of fish consumption for a healthy diet, the Center presented to the public the proposal to include fish in the school lunches of students from municipalities in São Paulo, since the World Health Organization (WHO) recommends such consumption at least twice a week, with 12kg of fish per inhabitant/year.

For the Center's scientific researcher and nutritionist, Jéssica Levy, “the public's receptivity to our proposal to increase the frequency and variety of fish offered in school meals was surprising! We are convinced that this initiative can bring significant benefits to the health and development of children throughout the state of São Paulo."
