The relationship between Fish and Health will be the central theme of the research, to be conduced by a consortium of research institutions including the Oceanographic Institute of the University of São Paulo (USP), the project's headquarters institution, the Fisheries Institute (IP-APTA), of the of Agriculture and Supply of the State of São Paulo, University of Mogi das Cruzes (UMC) and Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN).

 

In addition, Brazilian companies, such as Polinutri and Neogen, and foreign companies, such as Biomar (Norway), Veramaris (Netherlands), Lesaffre (France) and AquaHana (United States) participate in the project. Among the bodies involved are the Agricultural Research Support Foundation (FUNDAG) and the São Paulo Agribusiness Technology Agency (APTA).  The project also participates Dr. Albert G. J. Tacon – expert researcher with the theme and active in several countries – as a visiting researcher in the project.

 

The Center will explore and take advantage of the qualities of each partner institution in order to clarify the benefits for human health of the increase in fish and aquatic food consumption. In addition, it will promote public policies and dietary recommendations for consumers in São Paulo and Brazil.
